RECENT WORK
In the summer of 2006 I launched Flak Photo, a daily photography blogzine featuring distinctive work from an international community of contributors. The blog promotes interesting visual approaches to seeing the world and celebrates the art of exhibiting quality photography online. Flak Photo is published Monday through Friday with featured exhibits on the weekends and is distributed via RSS and email updates.
Two years ago, I joined the staff at the Wisconsin Historical Society's digital lab. I produce high resolution scans of vintage photographic negatives and prints from the collections and process the files for digital and print output. Additionally, I edit a monthly email newsletter that features gallery exhibits drawn from the Society's holdings. I'm also developing a digital outreach campaign to promote the sale of image reproductions from the visual materials archive.
Currently I'm working with Wisconsin Public Television's History Unit to coordinate archival image research, acquisition and digitization for web and televised output as well as for display in the Wisconsin Historical Society's online image database. I also produce web material for Wisconsin Stories, a project that uses TV, video and digital media to bring quality history programming to Wisconsin audiences.
Last winter, I collaborated with Franklin Street Press and photographer Zane Williams to develop a digital promotion for his newest project about the city of Madison, Wisconsin. In addition to designing a website that features his photography, I coordinated an email marketing campaign and a photo slideshow / review of the book.
Andy lives with his wife in Madison, Wisconsin. In addition to his photo / web projects, he spends his time watching DVDS, reading periodicals and listening to jazz and blues records, especially Thelonious Monk and John Lee Hooker.
